Benefits newcomers may qualify for in Hungary

Public schemes where an official source defines an eligible migration or residence status. Amounts and conditions are kept in their native terms.

ProgrammePublished amountSource and application

Aktív korúak ellátása — foglalkoztatást helyettesítő támogatás (FHT) és egészségkárosodási és gyermekfelügyeleti támogatás (EGYT) — Minimum-income support

Amount set per household by formula / Monthly

Competent district office (government office) / municipal mayor's office

Eligibility and amount details

The official 2026 Hungarian rate guide gives the FHT monthly amount as HUF 22,800. It gives EGYT as the difference between the family income limit and the family's monthly total income, with maximums of HUF 27,075 for a single claimant, HUF 59,850 for a family claimant and HUF 37,050 where a spouse or partner receives FHT; the payable amount varies by household and statutory conditions.

The official Hungarian guide for third-country nationals says that lawfully residing third-country nationals may in certain cases receive social and child-welfare benefits depending on their residence title. For the source-defined access categories it names menekült (recognized refugee), oltalmazott (beneficiary of subsidiary protection), hontalan (stateless), befogadott (admitted person), and persons with huzamos tartózkodási jogosultság (long-term residence entitlement). The same guide identifies aktív korúak ellátása as a cash social benefit for working-age people in need and describes FHT and EGYT; five bounded migrant/residence profiles, subject to the benefit's separate age, income, asset, health/child-care and other statutory conditions.

Álláskeresési járadék — Unemployment support

Amount set per household by formula / Daily

Government office employment department

Eligibility and amount details

The current NFSZ formula is 60% of the statutory benefit base, capped at the daily statutory minimum wage on the entitlement start date; the official page gives the 2026 cap as HUF 10,760 per day and HUF 322,800 per month from 2026-01-01.

The official National Employment Service (NFSZ) page defines the qualifying jobseeker as a person who, within the three years before becoming a jobseeker, ‘legalább 360 nap jogszerző idővel rendelkezik’ (has at least 360 days of qualifying period), wants to work, but has not succeeded through independent job search and has no suitable offered job. bounded work-status profile worker_insured_in_hungary_with_360_day_qualifying_work_period; the NFSZ page separately notes the U1 evidence for a jobseeker returning from abroad, but this row does not infer a nationality or residence category.

Családi pótlék (family allowance) — Family and child support

12,200–25,900 HUF / Monthly

Hungarian State Treasury

Eligibility and amount details

The current Hungarian State Treasury table states monthly Családi pótlék amounts from HUF 12,200 to HUF 25,900 by family size, single-parent status and the listed disability or institutional categories: HUF 12,200, 13,700, 13,300, 14,800, 16,000, 17,000, 23,300, 25,900, 20,300 and 14,800 as specified in the table.

The official Hungarian State Treasury EGT-family-benefit page states that an EGT citizen, or a third-country family member of an EGT citizen, may be entitled to Hungarian family benefits when the person has a right of residence exceeding three months in Hungary and a registered address, subject to the other Cst. conditions. The same page says that EU coordination rules apply to EU, EEA, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Swiss nationals and their family members, and that citizenship alone does not determine entitlement. Source wording: ‘EGT-állampolgár, valamint EGT-állampolgár harmadik országbeli családtagja ... 3 hónapot meghaladó tartózkodási joggal és bejelentett lakcímmel rendelkezik’. it does not generalise to every foreign resident or every family member.

Lakhatási támogatás 2026 — mobility housing support for jobseekers — Housing support

Amount set per household by formula / Monthly

Competent district office (government office) / state employment service

Eligibility and amount details

The current NFSZ 2026 mobility programme provides housing support for up to nine full calendar months, based on the rent, with a maximum of HUF 225,960 per month. The payable amount is the eligible rent up to the programme ceiling, subject to the employment, distance, lease and income conditions in the current notice.

The official Hungarian third-country benefits guide states: ‘A jogszerűen foglalkoztatott harmadik országbeli állampolgárok bizonyos esetekben részt vehetnek a magyar munkaerőpiaci programokban is’ and lists ‘munkába járási vagy mobilitási támogatás’; it says these are handled by the district-office employment department. Combined with the current NFSZ housing-support notice, which defines the jobseeker, employment, distance, rent and filing conditions, and does not generalize the programme to every foreign resident or every jobseeker.

Material Reception Conditions for Asylum-Seekers — Arrival and reception support

In-kind support

National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing

Eligibility and amount details

The current OIF page lists an in-kind support package: accommodation, room and board, three meals a day or an equivalent meal allowance, hygienic supplies or an equivalent hygienic contribution, clothing where necessary, travel allowances in specified cases, healthcare and education-cost reimbursement. The retained official page does not publish one national fixed HUF figure for this reception package; no fixed amount is asserted.

The current National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (OIF) page states that providing a healthy environment consistent with the basic needs of ‘foreign nationals seeking asylum’ is the Hungarian State's responsibility. It states that entitlement starts ‘following submission of the application’ and continues ‘until the final conclusion of the asylum procedure’. the source-defined financial-eligibility and individual reception conditions still apply, and no broader foreign-resident status is inferred.

ImmigrationDB shows published rules; it does not decide personal eligibility. Confirm your status, contribution record and household circumstances with the responsible authority before applying. Sources checked through 12 Aug 2026.
